Within the course of one month, Bethany suffered the loss of four of our pillars: four leaders who showed us what it looks like to be a disciple...a servant...a leader.
Jim Halbert was Senior Pastor at Bethany from 1979-1981, and a wonderful prayer partner ever since, lifting up our Pastor and our church daily in prayer.

Marian Anderson was our treasured "Pastor's Wife Emeritus," whose husband Dr. Ted Anderson pastored Bethany from 1957-1979. Marian remained active in ministry at Bethany until she went home to be with the Lord, and was a great encourager.

Two beloved leaders went home to be in God's presence on the same day.
Our church and school lost two beloved leaders. Jean Ford, Principal of West Covina Christian School for fourteen years, and a long-time leader at Bethany, passed away on June 14.

And then Bill Spurlock, our Minister of Pastoral Care (as well as Chairman of Bethany's Board of Deacons and long-time Chaplain at City of Hope) passed away just twelve hours later.

We have an amazing heritage at Bethany.
“The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places;
Indeed, my heritage is beautiful to me.”
PSALM 16:6 (NASB)
So the rest of us have a lot to live up to! What a remarkable legacy we've been graced with; what a model of service and ministry God provided for us.
Will we pick up the torch . . . and invest ourselves to serve the next generation?
